This trailblazing Army vet now fights for women in business

Retired Captain Charlotte Levine has broken ground for women in more ways than one. On the latest episode of Yahoo Finance’s Warrior Money, the Army veteran shares her journey from the military to the world of business. In the US Army, Levine served as one of the nation’s first female armor officers. As the topic of women serving in combat roles re-enters the national conversation, Levine emphasizes the need for women in service. “We’re the United States of America. We don’t deny opportunity based on gender,” she says. “If you can meet the standard, then you deserve to be there. That’s it.” Levine sees that same need for female representation in the places her journey took her after the military. After service, she earned her MBA at the Harvard Business School, another environment that tends to lack women among its veteran population. “I’m a huge advocate for getting more women in our top MBA programs,” Levine explains. “About five percent of our class are veterans, but of that five percent, maybe two to four people are female veterans.” Levine now serves as the Director of Strategy for the now-booming National Women’s Soccer League’s (NSWL) NJ/NY Gotham FC. “The demand has always been there. It’s just the investment wasn’t,” Levine says of the surge in popularity for the sport. “A big takeaway from the military is you learn how to lead small teams, and you learn how to be really comfortable being uncomfortable,” Levine says. “As soon as I figured out how to do a job in the military, I was put into a whole different position — and that’s kind of what it feels like day to day, hoping to grow Gotham into the world’s top destination for women’s soccer.” Hosted by former Congressman Patrick Murphy and veteran investor Dan Kunze, Yahoo Finance’s Warrior Money is a weekly vodcast dedicated to uplifting military veterans transitioning into civilian life. Through insights from fellow veterans and high-ranking government officials, Murphy and Kunze are helping set vets up for success through financial education and inspiration.
